Michael graduated from the University of Auckland Engineering School in 1989, before joining AirNZ Engineering Services as a structures engineer. He soon became a CAANZ delegated approval holder, and later appointed as leader of the Aero Support Group, overseeing aircraft repair and minor modifications. In 2001, Michael left for Seattle, and worked for Boeing. He returned to Air NZ in 2003 to lead the Auckland Design Team, later becoming Manager of Air NZ Design Services delivering the major Air NZ 747 Interior Upgrade in 2004. On the back of that success Air NZ Design Engineering pursued third party contracts and this ultimately lead to the proposal to form Altitude. Michael led the formation of Altitude Aerospace Interiors Ltd in 2008, and is now the General Manager.
