Paul Dyson

Paul Dyson is an entrepreneur and consultant with over 25 years experience in international technology companies. He has worked in Australia (9 years); France (7 years); the UK (7 years), India (1 year) and NZ (3 years). His key strengths are in sales and marketing; strategic planning; general management and business development for technology companies. He has been CEO of two successful start-up technology companies (one, a technology company in the UK now US based, www.puricore.com and the other an electric vehicle company in India and Russia www.ultramotor.com) and contributed at senior levels in more than a dozen others.

Paul is the founder and owner of a successful medical agency/distribution business in the Middle East and director of three privately-held companies. He is a trustee of a not-for-profit organisation in NZ, the Northern Cochlear Implant Trust; a Board Member of the IceAngels and Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Directors. He holds a BSc in Physics and a BE (Elec) (Hons) from the University of Sydney and lives with his wife and two children in Auckland.

Presentation Title: It is possible to be International even when you’re small, pre-revenue and NZ-based.

Summary: How does an Australian, living in New Zealand, build a viable electric-vehicle business in India, for an English holding company with Russian and Chinese technology and Directors in the Isle of Man and Moscow? Paul Dyson was the interim CEO for this venture in 2005/6 and will discuss some of the lessons he learned and the techniques he used to overcome the extraordinary geographical and technological challenges that such a start-up company faces.
