
Alan Nunns is an independent consultant in the Energy and IT sectors, with extensive industry experience.
Alan received a B.Sc. with honours in geology from Auckland University, and after graduating from Durham University, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar, with a Ph.D. in geophysics, he spent two years as a NATO postdoctoral scholar at Columbia University.
He began his 24-year career at Chevron as a research geophysicist, served two years as CIO for Chevron’s international exploration and production operations and retired in 2006 as General Manager of Technology and Strategy for Chevron’s global IT function.
During his time there he was a principal developer of the oil industry’s first generation of interactive computer systems, was a leader of Chevron’s research efforts in structural geology and petroleum basin analysis and spent four years developing and managing some of Chevron’s largest oil fields in West Africa, using new geophysical and drilling technologies.
Alan is a founding member of the first chapter of the Kiwi Expat Association (KEA).
